May 27, 2013 letter

Okay so yes there was a baptism this week. Yara was officially baptized this week by Her Husband. Goodness I loved it! It was perfect. We basically taught her the whole gospel in one week. So that was fun. You can truely tell who is ready for the Gospel and who is not. She totally acepted everything we taught her. and the best part of it all is….. Drum roll please………. We spoke english for all the lessons. Such a blessing. haha. Anyways Ya the baptism was yesterday right after church. So perfect. I loved just watching the change come over her. They had been teaching her before I got here but you can just see such a huge change in a person as they fully embrase the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  But anyways at the baptism we had no piano player…. So guess who played… It wasn’t the best I’ve played. But it definetly wasn’t the worst so that was good. While they were changing after the actual baptism we sang a couple songs that i might have had to just play one hand but The Lord Blessed me. That is a fact. I couldn’t have done it alone. I was praying the whole time. Its different because I haven’t played since the MTC. And even then I didn’t play that much. So ya I was a little rusty but it was all Good. I’m so thankful for the talent that God has given me. And for my Wonderful Mother that pushed me to continue through and keep playing!

Hmm Norma. We met with her this week. I met her Noivio (boyfriend for the first time). We watched together forever with them and It really got to him. So hopefully it touched him enough to get married. We’ll see how it goes. I think it went very well. The best part about Norma is she is changing. You can see it in her dress and apearance. Its so wonderful. She really is letting christ in as much as she can without getting married. Its so cool to watch her change even if its little by little.

O my goodness gracious. Coolest story ever. You usually only hear these stories on the news. But I met this lady this week. So we went to visit this less active lady that her husband moved out on her. But she was pregnant with twins. Guys are such jerks. haha. anyways so I guess one day she passed out on the ground. Well she has this daughter thats 2. This daughter grabbed the moms cell phone, it was an i phone so she had to know how to find the actual part to dial the number. Well she got into it and Dialed 911. Totally saved her mothers life. So its good to let your kids play with your phone. and to teach them about the importance of calling 911. Seriously she lost the twins….. But What a faith promoting story to watch her push on. its sad what conditions people work under here. She asked us as we were leaving if we knew somebody with a bed because she was sleeping on the ground so her kids could have the bed. But then when she got out of the hospital she had to have a bed to sleep in so her kids were sleeping on the ground. We got her a bed thank goodness. People are so amazing. I love the Latin people becuase they are so giving and loving to everybody!!

first baptism

first baptism

This week we had a few memeber meals but one I want to talk about. Her name is Hermana Bowers. We went for lunch. and of coarse as missionaries we leave a spiritual thought. Well I bore my testimony in spanish of coarse because thats about all I can do in spanish haha. But I bore my testimony on miracles. and how God has blessed my with the Gift of tounges. (at least thats what I was hoping to bare my testimnoy on…. I don’t know if tahts what I said or not haha Jk) But I looked up and she was crying. Then from what I think I understood of what she said (I don’t know if tahts just what I wanted her to say or if its truely what she said haha) she said it was a miracle that I could speak that much spanish it 8 weeks. Goodness You gotta love the Gift of tounges.

Speaking of the Gift of tounges we had a transfer this week. AAAHHH It was me and elder Stanford. A different one from the MTC but we did leave the MTC the same day. haha. So we have both been out for 3 weeks in the field and were both beginers in spanish in the MTC. So that was a crazy exchange the Lord set up. But I loved it. He said something that really touched me and has changed the way I want to do missionary work. He said “Fake it till you make it” Just act like you know what your saying in spanish and one day you’ll do good at speaking in spanish. Its so true. SO I gotta try and try! Well basically we had some amazing blessings that day. We taught his first baptisms wife named Yuli (julie). We taught on faith and that went amazing! She totally knows its true she just wont be baptized quite yet. haha. But i love it! Then that night we taught another lesson to a couple mexicans on a  pourch. They were totally ready for the gospel. Two of them were totally soaking it up! I loved it. its so cool to watch people soak up the Gospel. But ya we were blessed with the Gift of tounges that day!

This week we also had an amazing experience. We had somebody call us. His name was robert. He is a recent convert of a couple months. HE’s 18 and he wanted his mom to hear the gospel while she was in town. We taught her two lessons this week and lets just say she soaked it up. I loved it. She said something that I want to share right quick. She said, It just makes sense. Every other chuch doesn’t make sense. This one just does. So ya that was sweet and so true. It does make sense.

I love pres hall. He’s so awesome. We had a trainers follow up meeting this week. He is so full of knowledge. So much insight for us. He showed us a talk called “preach my gospel missionary” By elder Bednar. I lvoe elder bednar. He said in this talk something that I am giong to do this week. Teasure up the words of eternal life. I am striving for that. The words we have of the gospel are so powerful and will speak right to the hearts of men. I know that and it is helping my faith so much every day!

haha this will make you laugh. I made so many phone calls this week. In spanish. Its so hard but I am definetly strengthened by the Lord! Such a blessing!

Well that was my week.

Charity preceedeth faith. You need to love something before you can have faith in it!

Love always,

Colombia Burgers

This was at that columbian burger place. It was so cool to see all the different artwork people Had done on their dollar bills. I didn’t quite do one but It was cool to see haha. Love you all. I’ll have more pictures next week!!

Goodness where to start… Well there are really three people that I want to talk about alot.  One is Yara. One is Norma and one is Juan…

O best experience ever. Okay Tuesday we ran into a man named Elliot By tracting doors. It was all in english but he was so ready for the Gospel. Well Kinda haha. We knocked on the door and he was like “O We had some of you guys come over a couple weeks ago. But I really want to know more about what you believe. I have studied up on a whole bunch of religions but yours is one I havent really studied up on. So we talked with him..” So we mainly just taught him a lot. We had to hand him off as a refearal but it was so cool to teach him. at first he was like I probably wont join your church or anything but I would still like to learn more. So we answered his questions. almost taught him the whole gospel. But anyways by the end Elder Slade extended a baptismal invite and he was like ya I mean if the spirit tells me I would join the church for sure. So sweet!!!!

Dang what next. O we went to this place called columbia Burgers on wednesday. Best hanburger I’ve ever had. I Dont’ know what it had in it but it was so good.  I loved it!

Hmm next on thursday we went to this guy’s house. well this families house. The Sedan Family. He spoke english so that was good. He said something that really hit home and will help me.

“don’t be afraid to make mistakes. That’s why we’re here on this earth”.

Goodness so true. So that really helped me to just want to throw myself out there and work.

Goodness I almost forgot. Friday was one of the most special experiences of my life. We went to an elementary school for a service project to help out with a carnival. I helped make the snow cones. Mainly just put the juice on the snow cones. But anyways we had a teacher there that told us all about the kids and how they really struggle. How you never know whats going on at home and all that. and how at school they just gotta show them love. He was an true example of how a teacher should be. I think a teacher would be fun. But I don’t know that I would do very good haha. But it was so much fun to just say hi to all the kids. Give them a little compliment. I loved it! That was one of the highlights of my week for sure.

Saturday we went on exchanges. I stayed in our area and my two companions left to a different one. So I ran the whole area. Hardest thing ever. Made me really grateful for my companions. They truely are amazing. But anyways I was put with an elder Cook. He played hockey so we got along really well. He loves argentina also so that was sweet. haha. His dad served in argentina so I got to hear some stories. That was sweet.

Okay now I’ll go with Norma. No she’s not Married yet. We’re meeting with her and her husband hopefully tonight to try to get them to feel the spirit. We’re gonna watch together forever. So hopefully the spirit will work in the boyfriends heart. I think it will. at least I pray it will. So ya but we had an awesome lesson on friday with a member present. He totally said exactly what she needed to hear. She has a hard time understanding the scriptures so we kinda gave her some hints on that. That was sweet!!

Next I’ll talk about Juan. He has a baptismal date on June second. We just need him to stay clean of the drinking…. So ya no bueno. He was totally planning to go to church yesterday but We called him about an hour before. and he didn’t know where he was… So we were guessing he was drunk.. haha. So that was bad. But it all worked out. We’re hoping to visit him tonight. We really just need to spend more time with him is really what it boils down to!

Before I forget i got the letter from natalie on wednesday.

Okay Yara. So amazing on her progress this week. She has recieved an answer about the book of mormon. She is so ready. Her baptism is this Sunday! We are meeting with her every night this week. So that will be sweet. But we taught her the plan of salvation last night. Two hour lesson but it was SO good. She was asking a question and before she asked it she said something to the effect of “I know I shouldn’t question it but I’m kinda curious what…..” So awesome. She knows its all true and is accepting everything. Ya so I’ll have pictures next week of the baptism. That will be sweet. I just hope I don’t get my visa until after haha.

anways answering questions.. I don’t remember them all but yes I have knocked a ton of doors this week. and last. I knocked some my first day. That was scary but it was in english. He seemed super interested but gave us a phony phone number so must not have been too interested. Its so hard to just strike up a conversation but that’s why God blessed me with two companions haha. I love it! I’m Learning so much. The thing that helped me the most with contacting is something elder Cook said. “don’t try to be elder Slade or Elder Sprouce. Be You when contacting. Contact people how you would contact them not how anybody else does.”So that helped me to know how to do it better.

Anyways the language has improved a lot. I can understand so much more. Its so perfect. I love spanish…. At least the parts I understand. I’ve came a long way in understanding. But as far as speaking I feel like I’m getting worse and worse every day. So Hopefully I get to argentina soon and have to speak it all the time. i think that will help a ton to just have to speak it all the time.

Well I love you all and have an amazing week this week! Know that i’m happy and loveing every second of it. I think we rode about 70 miles on our bikes this week but I couldn’t help but smile the whole time. I love being a missionary!

Letter #6 (May 13, 2013)

AAAAWWEEE ya haha. Well what a crazy first week.. Where to start where to start…. Well missionary work isn’t anything like I expected. I feel like it doesn’t really require much work physically. I thought that would be the most work that I would be doing is pysical work. But its not really that at all. Its more of a mental and spiritual work. Which is hard because I’m more of a pysical worker. But I’m doing my best to keep pushing on. make that transision. Well taht first day it was really interesting. The first day… um tuesday that I got here and got in the field We went to the store… I had no Idea what I wanted… SO that was hard but I got some stuff and my companions Elder Slade and elder Sprouce have spoiled me this week. helped me to know what to get. So Ya that was good. Greatful for my two companions. Well anyways after the store we dropped my stuff off at the apartment, (off of Millena Blvd. and Northridge Drive if that helps) Then went out to work. We knocked some doors. That was scary.. That has been the hardest part for me. I feel like I can get my point accross in spanish if I know what I want to say. But I don’t know what I even want to say. Even the English contacts… I was just lost on what to say… So thats one thing I wish I would have done is worked on my social skills more to be able to talk and relate to anybody. But You know its still been good. my companions are great at it so they help. Then we went off to a couple lessons. Norma.. She was my first investigator we ran into. She had a baptismal date but wasn’t married so that didn’t really work out to well haha. So we’re trying to get her to talk to her Husband to get married then she’s as a good as baptized I think… at least  thats what I understand. From there its just a lot of teaching. There is one other invistigator we got going for us right now too. Her name is Yara. Her husband is a member.. But has been inactive for such a long time. So he’s reactivated. They remind me so much Or Rick and Crystal. Not in size but more in their actions. its awesome.

So saturday me and elder sprouce went on an exchange. haha that was fun. I learned so much. It was so much fun to be able to ride a bike on the exchange. I felt like a real missionary. haha. It was hard though to street contact. But I pushed through. I got pretty down on myself though. I Need to have more faith. I keep praying for a miracle. but hey I got those all day long. So it will come. O yes quote of the week

“My regrets come from my lack of experience, not my lack of effort.”

Elders slade and sprouce are so good with quotes. They really help me. So ya. O next quote.

‘First you need to try, then finish with an umph. Triumph”

haha So good. I’m really trying. and Ya I can do better at my try’s and do more with more effort. So thats what I’m focusing on right now is trying. If I try then the Lord will make up the difference I know that.

Okay thats really all from the week. I want to share a couple things now.

IMG_0418Things Pres. Hall said:

The perfect missionary is one that:

1) observes

4)Then teaches.

So many people get it mixed up. Do it backwards. Then they wonder why they don’t have success. I’m tryinig to train missionaries to be like you. (before that he meantioned a little about how thats what He had seen in me in how I work. So that meant a lot). Then he went on to talk about how You can’t doubt yourself. “You don’t observe then drop out because you doubt yourself.” I need to have more faith in not only me but in my abilities. and Our Savior….. Our Father in Heaven. With him all things are possible.

IMG_0400He then talked about something that was really good to hear. You start with your strengths. Then have your strengths bring your weaknesses up. You can’t start with your weaknesses because then you will just get down on yourself. You need to Build yourself up. Build up your confidence then the rest will come. With Confidence… With Faith all things are possible. I truely know that and believe that. Faith is where it all starts so if you have a strong faith then all things are possible.

IMG_0337He also talked about how we need to be Humble…. I always thought I was pretty humble but I can always do better. Always always. So one thing I’ve been working on.. For quite a long time is taking crutisism the right way. alowing it to improve me and not destroy me. thats one of my biggest weaknesses. So ya. Especailly with the spanish. Its hard for me because I feel like I’m getting my point across but my companions will be like what are you even saying. So ya…. But it goes back to faith. I have faith!! I do I do.

Reading in my partriatical blessing yesterday I came across something… The word perservant… I am blessed with perservance. Considering I didn’t really know what that was i searched about it through my whole scripture study… I found a couple things that made me happy. It’s pushing through trials… Holding fast to your integrity. Its dedication. Diligence. Endurance. Steadfastness. Goodness I needed that. I love knowing that the Lord is behind me though everything.

I lvoe being a missionary in this time and in this place. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. If the Lord wanted me in argentina he would have put me there. I have something to do here and we’ll see what it is. Because the Lord  could have had me my Visa a long time ago if he wanted me to have it. SO i have work to do here. THings to Learn. and here I go to learn those things. Please help me thank the lord each night for everything that I have been given. I am so Blessed. We all are!

God Be with you till we meet again!,

Elder Dial :D.

Don’t forget to smile!! 😀

Letter #5

Its here. haha so crazy! ORLANDO FLORIDA HERE I COME! I’m so excited. First Item of Buisness I need to be sure I have money in my account for baggage fee’s on monday. Think you could make sure I have money in my acount? maybe like 200 maybe 300 bucks? That should be plenty.

Well as you know this week was my last week. After I got my reasignment on thursday its been crazy haha. Hard to focus but I’ve done my best. I laid in bed last night for about 20 min just trying to fall asleep. That’s always fun! But I finnally got a clear enough Mind to fall asleep. I love sleep just in case you were wondering. Anyways I’m really not nervous. and just like the MTC I probably wont be until I am on the plane. I’m so excited though. I love being a missionary. It was good to call and talk. I tried to say I love you at the end. But no bueno. haha. So Dad I love you! I love you all. So colten… haha. Did I scare you when I called? You seemed a little nervous. haha.

O thanks for the package. Lets just say The Orange sticks and the Milano cookies are no esta any more. haha. I finnished the orange sticks last night and the cookies before breakfast this morning haha. But they were amazing. Aunt Marjean sent me a cake with a lovely card. You’ll have to either send me here adress or let her know of my gratitude for it. It was very heartfelt and made my day. But anyways thanks for the letters. Everybody in my district really got a kick out of the commics. haha. Quincy made me nervous though. The first thing he put on his letter was “I hope you don’t come home… like that..” i didn’t get it for the longest time till I put the comic with the letter. He hopes I don’t come home with packed suitcases. I got it haha. But anyways thanks for the letters! They were perfect. Also I love the pictures. My favorite. But ya the picture with my Girlfriend kissing my cheek. Awe ya haha. Go Lacey! All the guys are Jealous of my Girlfriend for sure 😀

Well another think that you have somehow found out through Caytlin. I was able to host two new missionaries this week. That was fun. Its cool to see how excited the missionaries are. That even though they have their moms crying for them they pushed through and kept focused…. haha kinda. I guess as focused as you can be on that first day. So ya thats always fun. But ya it was a great experience to host new missionaries. I keep talking to elder Doxey. So glad I’m learning spanish. I had a missionary come in that was learning two different languages. French and…. umm…. I don’t remember but it didn’t sound easy. So ya the lord Blessed me with spanish.

Hmm so trial of the weak… I guess I can call it that. Hermana Funke in my district. well her grandma Died this week. That was hard for here. But she is pushing on like an ox! HAha is that what you call a sister? I guess haha. But it really made me think how hard it must have been for justin.. Gave me a new perspective on how amazing My Brother really is. To be able to push through that trial like that. I admire him like crazy!

ahhh Blessing of the week!!!! hermana Savage is coming back. And she gets to go straight out into the field. She’s coming back tonight so she’ll be with us tomorrow and then leave with the Hermanas on Tuesday to Tempe Arizona.. O ya the rest of my districts reassignments. Elder Stanford got reassigned to Tempe also! So he Goes with the Hermanas on tuesday. haha. Um elder Varner Is going to San fernado Cali.. And then My companion… Drum roll please………. Boise Idaho haha. So funny. But he’s gonna love it. He’s talked to some people that have really talked it up. so he’s excited. and glad hes not going to the Pocatello mission haha. He’s awesome. I love my companion!!

Hmm now onto the spiritual side of things this week. Two great devotionals. I lvoe the devotionals. First was a guy by the name Stephen B. Allen. So funny! He talked about how Satan knows how to push your buttons. But how we can protect our buttons. One thing that I really liked that he talked about is every day the sun comes up. and if today is worse than yesterdan be thankful for yesterday haha. Interesting concept that is. Now he was very Blunt with everything. For sure. one thing he said That I liked again is, Don’t murmer. It offends the spirit. how true that is. Gods hand is so evedent in our lives if we but look. and if we murmer, then the spirit is offended because He loves our God more than anything. So yes theres that devotional.

Next tuesday night devotional. he read the whole talk so that was hard but it was still very good! Allen F Packer. ONe thing his wife shared is We share the gospel with the ones we love. I must learn to love the people before I can ever share the Gospel. how true that is. One thing he shared that i really liked is that our second pedagree chart has only two generations. Us and Our heavenly parents. How true that is. We are truely all Children of our heavenly father and he loves us more than anything on this earth. We have so much potential and we can reach that potential. I love it.

Quote of the week that I have decided to make the motto of my mission. (thanks to Natalie and her sending me the ensign I have it word for word from conference so thank you!

“Never once heard him say anything Negative about any person or circumstance, and it was impossible not to feel buoyed up in his presence.”

-Elder Bruce D Porter.

That was probably one of my favortie talks from conference. I want to live my mission in such a way that I can bring others up in my attitudes and my words. want to be a source for good. I want to be like his college roomate. Anyways Loved it!

Not much more happened this week. I get to pack all day today. I’m doing laundry as we speak. I love it… aahhh.. Well I’ll talk to you Monday. Can’t wait. Between 8 and 9 is my layover in Arizona. So I’ll give ya a call. Then we’ll see for sunday. It’s here.

Forgetting myself and getting back to work,
